- Select a nickname. A suitable nickname has already been selected for you, but you may change it in the field below.
- Click the "Go Chat!" button.
- A popup window will open with the chat client.
- You may be required to allow the applet to run, based on your computer's security settings.
You will automatically be connected to the official Nexus War chat room. You can also join other chat rooms that exist on the server (there are lots) simply by typing the following:
- /join #channelname
For example, if you wanted to join the "help" channel, you just type "/join #help".
Some channels (particularly faction-specific channels) may require a password to enter. In such cases, you type the password right after the channelname, thus:
- /join #channelname thepassword
If you join more than one channel, you will see each channel listed as a button at the bottom of the screen. Clicking on any of the channel name buttons will switch your window to that channel, so you can see what's being said and type there.
You can send "private messages" to other users as well. You can do that like this:
- /msg username The text of your message
So, if you wanted to send a private greeting to your friend, Eternal_Soldier_422, you might type:
- /msg Eternal_Soldier_422 Hey, how's it going?
Only your friend will see the message.
There are many other commands and tools involved in irc, but that should get you going for now!
